“A Mother of a Holiday”

That’s right, Mother’s Day is just around the corner and now is the time to be fine tuning your plans for a successful holiday. What makes a successful holiday you ask? The answer is that it varies from store to store and region to region.

Some base success on whether the sales out performed last years. Not a bad gauge, however, this is only part of the equation. Some owner’s base success on total orders increased including wire orders in and out. Again, an important part of the equation, but not the only consideration when evaluating success. Were the average ticket sales higher this year or lower? More orders do not always equate to higher sales. Success to others may be measured in a low remaining inventory. It is good to take a remaining inventory of both finished design work and unused components. The part of this mindset that is missing is that it does not tell how many sales were lost due to lack of inventory available. Was there adequate staffing to handle the compressed demand for service A major consideration since two-thirds of the American public will celebrate Mother’s Day and of that number twenty five percent will patronize a traditional florist for their services. It is often said that the buying public is not patronizing their local flower shop. Maybe it is because there is a lack of skilled or trained service to meet the buying needs of the public. When phones are taken off the hook and wire service computers are shut down by the flower shops, it sends signals to the public that we are not interested in you and your order. While there are a large number of last minute orders to be filled, being prepared with well trained, skilled help is the best way to capture that customer’s sale this year, but exceeding customer’s expectations goes a long way in retaining them for future sales.

Having a strong inventory for those last minute sales is just as important as having adequate inventory for your pre-planned designs. This means buckets and vases of the freshest flowers from Florabundance for those DIY customers.

So, what makes for a successful holiday? All of the above getting a superior rating when the holiday is evaluated. Make it a successful one with help from Florabundance!
