The attendees were broken into small groups and headed out with docents to tour the 37 acres. Here are a few shots of what we saw-

Amy Osaba Floral Designer Florabundance Design DaysAmy Osaba (Atlanta, Georgia)
www.amyosaba.com

Amy grew up in Atlanta watching her mother and grandmother work in the garden – her grandmother, to the age of 85 maintained a recognized Daylily farm in Arkansas; and her mother, an avid gardener and painter, always encouraged the creative process.

Surrounded by creativity, from an early age Amy has always been drawn to the arts. Having studied ballet since the age of five, when she turned 18, Amy moved to New York City to dance with the Joffrey Ballet. Over the next ten years, she danced for the Atlanta Ballet and the Cleveland/San Jose Ballet, from which she retired.

Her strong theatrical background set the stage for a fusion of mixed-medium, dramatic statements in venues around the southeast.

Working with some of the industry’s most fiercely talented industry leaders, trendsetters, and widely acclaimed experts, Amy’s work was pushed to the forefront, which has allowed her work to be featured in publications including, Martha Stewart Magazine, Southern Weddings, Pacific Coast Weddings, Weddings Unveiled, Flower Magazine, Brides Magazine, NBC, HGTV, Southern Living, Utterly Engaged and blogs such as OnceWed, 100 Layer Cake, Style Me Pretty, Snippit and Ink, Design*Sponge among others.

Amy is excited to talk to the Florabundance design days attendees again this year, introducing some of her and her company’s innovative ways of bridging the art of business with the creative mind.

Holly Chapple - Megan Sorel PhotographyHolly Chapple (Lucketts, Virginia)
www.hollychappleflowers.com

Holly Heider Chapple founded her wedding and event floral design business 24 years ago. The business was home based and offered Holly an opportunity to make a living while raising her family. At the tine the studio primarily focused on weddings and events in the Washington DC area, as well as luxury destination weddings. Over the years, the Holly Heider Chapple Flowers brand continued to grow and gain international recognition. This was primarily a result of Holly’s involvement in social media and the popularity of her then active blog, The Full Bouquet. In 2011 Holly’s husband Evan joined the company and the studio saw another serious period of growth. Evan’s involvement allowed Holly the opportunity to focus on other aspects of the business while Evan started a lighting and drape division. Evan also began restoring the family cutting gardens which had been abandoned over the years due to Holly’s intense wedding schedule.

Just before Evan joined the company in 2010, Holly founded The Chapel Designers, which is an international collective of wedding and event floral designers. The organization educates, supports and mentors creatives while encouraging the authenticity of each designer. Holly and Evan host the Chapel Designers workshops internationally and at their new farm, Hope Flower Farm. Hope farm is a registered bed and breakfast as well as a flower school. Holly is a supporter of the American Grown Slow Flower movement.

Holly and her husband Evan celebrated 29 years of marriage this January and are the proud parents of seven wonderful children ranging in age from 7 to 29.

Emily Carter Floral Design Maine
Lobiloo Software for FloristsEmily Carter (Maine)

www.lobiloo.com

After launching Emily Carter Floral Designs: a floral design studio specializing in weddings and events. I quickly started to see a change in the needs and wants of clients with regards to their correspondence, communication and relationship with me as a florist. They wanted images, more knowledge and a better way of conveying the product that florists were giving them. Therefore, I partnered with a dear friend and phenomenal software guru, Dan Piltch of Freeport Metrics, and we began work on Lobiloo. In 2012, we launched Lobiloo: a software application that simplifies floral planning and communication with the client. First to the market of its kind, we simplified and streamlined image based estimates and the behind the scenes work with cost outs, order forms and design recipes all with the click of a button. Pinterest compatible imagery of flowers, price saving of stems and rental inventory, client payment tracking and so much more was available for not only ECFD, but for other florists as well.

Years later, we continue to grow, educate and work with florists on ways to strengthen their businesses with the use of Lobiloo, making them more profitable, while saving them time and making them more efficient.

I feel so fortunate every day that I was given this opportunity to be an artist for a living and with Lobiloo, I spend less time in front of my computer and more time being creative for others, which is the root of where this all began.

After the welcome breakfast everyone climbs onboard buses to be transported to the beautiful gardens of Lotusland, located in Montecito, California. The next 2 1/2 days will be spent on the amazing, lush grounds of Lotusland – where the designers will learn design techniques from Amy Merrick, Amy Osaba, Sarah Winward, Holly Chapple, Francoise Weeks, and Tricia Saroya. Plus, Alicia Schwede of Flirty Fleurs will give a talk about the latest in Social Media. We were thrilled to have Kim Wiseley of Flutter Magazine present to plan and coordinate all photoshoots.

Since so many of the designers attending Florabundance Inspirational Design Days fly in from other states, and other countries, they are unable to take all the lovely flowers home with them. Of course, we want these flowers to be enjoyed by people for days to come so we share them with The Dream Foundation. The Dream Foundation will go on to redistribute all these flowers to hospitals and nursing care homes in the Santa Barbara area –

amymerrickAmy Merrick (Brooklyn, NY)
www.amymerrick.com

Amy Merrick is a floral designer, writer and stylist based in New York City. Her writings on design, flower arranging and entrepreneurship have appeared in books, magazines and across the web. As a florist, she creates evocative tablescapes of flowers, foliage, fruits and branches for weddings throughout the country, often gathering materials herself from the surrounding landscape. Her work as a stylist is botanically focused, and she has provided natural elements for magazine covers and national ad campaigns.

Amy has worked with Ralph Lauren, Brides, The Today Show, Design Sponge, Nylon, Whole Living, BHLDN, Garden Design, Country Living, CNN and Kinfolk. She chronicles her experiences on her personal blog and teaches floral classes out of her Brooklyn studio.

amyosabaAmy Osaba (Atlanta, Georgia)
www.amyosaba.com

Her passion is to make every event extraordinary, exquisite and authentic. She is driven by the creative process from beginning to end, down to every last detail, making dreams into realities. The only thing she loves more than the process is to hear her clients tell her, “it was even more beautiful than I ever imagined.”

Amy lives outside of Atlanta with her three handsome boys and their dog Cloe.

francoisweeks2Francoise Weeks (Portland, OR)
www.francoiseweeks.com

Honing her talents through training with the florists of Antwerp, Françoise discovered her signature—a unique lush and textural style, heavily imprinted by her love of nature and art. Since 1996 she has translated her passion into creations of flowers, herbs, fruits, vegetables and foliage in a way that the masters could only paint.

Her portfolio runs the gamut from elegant natural simplicity to the abundant and bountiful; she consistently delivers the unexpected. Françoise’s first priority is to realize the ideas and needs of her clients and bring to the process her attention to detail and unique creativity.

Recently her work has emerged into two distinctive styles: URBAN WOODLANDS—contemporary stylings of mosses, lichens, bark and forest floor gatherings and FLORAL FORWARD—exquisite botanical haute couture creations of purses, headpieces and shoes.

She shares her knowledge of floral design and mechanics with professionals and students from around the world in an intimate studio class and workshop setting. Françoise has been the subject of numerous magazine articles throughout the United States and Europe.

hollychappelHolly Chapple (Lucketts, VA)
www.hollychappleflowers.com

Flowers have been a constant part of Holly’s life — she literally grew up in a green house! As a newlywed and young woman, Holly decided to take her inherited love, knowledge and passion for flowers and grow a business. From those seeds planted nineteen years ago, “Holly Heider Chapple Flowers LTD.” became one of the most sought after and well-loved designers in the area.

Holly’s impeccable designs have set the tone for thousands of weddings and events in the Washington DC region. Holly’s flowers have adorned venues such as The Library of Congress, The Ronald Reagan Building, The Mayflower Hotel, Union Station, The Udvar Hazy Smithsonian Center, The Four Seasons, The Fairmont, The US Convention Center, The American Indian Museum, The DAR Museum, and The Ritz Carlton Hotels–to name just a few. In addition to these prestigious DC venues, Holly is a preferred vendor in Loudoun County, where she resides with her husband and 7 children.

For the past four years, Joost Bongaerts and Florabundance have been working with Holly on the various Chapple designers’ events.

sarahwinwardSarah Winward (Salt Lake City, UT)
www.sarahwinward.com

Sarah was born with a deep appreciation and respect for nature running through her veins. Inspired by the outdoors, Sarah creates flowers for weddings and events that are fresh & creative. She finds joy in collaborating with a couple to create flowers unique for their event; taking inspiration from them, the season, and the surroundings.

Sarah is based in Salt Lake City, Utah where she lives at the base of the mountains with her family. She travels all over the world creating flowers for weddings. Exploring new environments & incoporating them into her work is something that feeds Sarah’s sense of wanderlust. Continuously seeking out new flowers, color palettes, and textures, Sarah’s work is truly a collaboration between her and her surroundings.

triciafountaineTricia Fountaine (Santa Barbara, CA)
www.triciafountainedesign.com

Tricia is an event designer in Santa Barbara, California. She fell into the event business after working as a floral designer for several years. After becoming frustrated by the lack of cohesiveness and creativity in the overall look of events as well as the event not always reflecting the personality of the client she decided to get involved on a bigger scale.

She has been active in various artistic endeavors all her life from working as an interior designer and a merchandiser to owning her own store. She also has a BA in art history with some courses in fine arts. If you are interested Tricia would be happy to design a most magical event just for you.

Tricia says “I believe in magic. Magical things happen everyday if we allow ourselves to see it. My work is to play with the magic and help to create with you a moment in time that is so special, so lovely, that all who are there feel the importance and beauty of the moment. Whatever the occasion, ceremony is important and should be honored. I would like to help you create your special occasion, imbue it with thoughtfulness, love, beauty and magic.
